Portrait of Dana

Description

I had a different approach to this piece. The model was positioned in such a way that I could see her back, her reflection, and everyone else painting behind me in the mirror. So I pulled my glasses down and with my terrible eyesight I painted what I saw - masses of formless color. After about an hour I put them back on detailed the figure a little more to bring focus where I wanted it.

I was really attracted to Dana's reflection and the cool greens and blues it gave off. I've been looking at Impressionist artwork recently so that definitely helped shape this painting.

fine approach and good results - they said in art school we should squint our eyes to lose detail and concentrate on color
and composition - without your glasses you have even better effect .
